Orange: Ophir Road Resource Recovery Centre
Orange City Council's Ophir Road Resource Recovery Centre at 261 Ophir Road accepts residential and commercial asbestos. The Australian Government's asbestos disposal directory lists it as open 8am to 5pm, 7 days (closed Good Friday and Christmas Day), with an appointment needed at least 24 hours beforehand on (02) 6393 8861. Council's operating plan says asbestos is only accepted at the weighbridge if it's properly contained.
Blayney Shire: Blayney Waste Facility
The NSW EPA lists the Blayney Waste Facility at 4165 Mid Western Highway, Blayney, as a facility that accepts household asbestos from the public. Phone (02) 6368 2104 before you go to check its requirements.
Cabonne: Molong, Canowindra and villages
Cabonne Council says asbestos is accepted at some of its waste facilities, by appointment only, and you must contact council before delivery on (02) 6392 3200. Council has installed WasteLocate plates at its Manildra, Canowindra and Eugowra facilities. Disposal charges are in council's fees and charges.
Before you load anything
- Phone the facility first. Booking rules, accepted amounts and fees change.
- Don't break sheets to fit them in. Keep the material damp and wrapped in heavy-duty plastic, taped and labelled as the facility requires.
- Never put asbestos in a general skip, wheelie bin, kerbside clean-up or a council transfer station that doesn't list it.
- Moving more than 100 kg or 10 m² of asbestos sheeting triggers WasteLocate reporting to the NSW EPA.
- If it's more than 10 m², or friable, it must be removed by a licensed removalist, who usually handles disposal too.
