Asbestos around Molong
Molong and the surrounding Cabonne farmland have plenty of older homes and sheds built when asbestos-cement products were common. Corrugated roofing on hay and machinery sheds, fibro cladding and old flue pipes are typical. Removing a shed roof is almost always more than 10 m², so it's licensed work.
Cabonne Council disposal
Molong is in Cabonne Council, whose office is at 99–101 Bank Street, Molong. Council says asbestos is accepted at some of its waste facilities, by appointment only, and you must contact council on (02) 6392 3200 before delivery. It lists WasteLocate plates at its Manildra, Canowindra and Eugowra facilities. Ophir Road in Orange is another option, with 24 hours' notice.
Who can remove it
In NSW, SafeWork NSW says a licensed professional must remove any friable asbestos and any amount of bonded (non-friable) asbestos over 10 m², and it recommends a licensed professional for any amount. See the NSW rules guide.
